Role Summary
The HVAC & Ventilation MEP Design Engineer will represent the Client organization in overseeing, reviewing, and governing the design and execution of HVAC systems across hospital and healthcare projects.
The role focuses on safeguarding technical standards, compliance with healthcare codes (ASHRAE 170, HTM, NABH where applicable), infection control requirements, and long-term operational reliability.
The position acts as the technical custodian on behalf of the Client, ensuring that consultants and contractors deliver compliant, efficient, and hospital-appropriate HVAC and ventilation systems aligned with patient safety and operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Oversight & Technical Governance
- Review and validate HVAC and ventilation system designs prepared by MEP consultants.
- Verify heat load calculations, pressurization strategies, air change rates, and infection control requirements for critical areas such as OTs, ICUs, isolation rooms, labs, and CSSD.
- Review equipment selection (chillers, AHUs, exhaust systems, filtration systems, etc.) for suitability, redundancy, and lifecycle performance.
- Review and approve construction drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BoQ).
- Ensure design intent aligns with hospital operational workflows and future scalability requirements.
2. Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure full compliance with:
- ASHRAE 170
- HTM guidelines (where applicable)
- National Building Code (NBC)
- Local authority regulations
- Infection control standards
- NABH / accreditation requirements
- Review contractor submittals, technical data sheets, and shop drawings for compliance with approved design and specifications.
- Ensure proper redundancy, zoning, and resilience strategies are incorporated in all critical systems.
- Guide sustainable and energy-efficient design practices aligned with green building frameworks (LEED / IGBC / WELL, where applicable).
3. Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Oversee coordination between HVAC and other MEP disciplines (Electrical, PHE, MGPS, Fire).
- Review integrated models (Revit / BIM) to ensure clash-free and constructible solutions.
- Interface with hospital operations teams, biomedical engineers, and medical planners to validate HVAC performance criteria for medical equipment and critical environments.
- Participate in design review meetings as the Client’s technical authority.
4. Construction & Commissioning Oversight – Joint working with Execution team
- Conduct periodic site inspections to ensure execution aligns with approved design intent.
- Monitor quality of installation, insulation, ducting, air balancing, and controls.
- Review testing & commissioning protocols, TAB reports, and validation documentation for critical areas.
- Oversee system performance validation prior to handover.
- Ensure proper documentation including as-built drawings and O&M manuals are submitted and vetted.
